La Piola

"ONLY BY EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT GOOD FOOD AND GOOD HABITS CAN WE PRESERVE THIS GREAT HERITAGE".

It was at the beginning of the 2000's when the Ceretto family decided to start a common project with Chef Enrico Crippa: two restaurants (Piazza Duomo and La Piola), two distinct souls in a single building in Piazza Risorgimento, the heart of the city of Alba.

The intuition stemmed from the Ceretto family's desire to promote their local area, also from a gastronomic point of view. The project took shape in 2005 with the opening of the now three-star Piazza Duomo and La Piola, a restaurant based on typical Langhe cuisine.

The latter was conceived by the Ceretto family in order to pass on the culinary tradition of flavours that have been handed down for centuries and constitutes the Italian ideal of the “trattoria”. Its name is rooted in the Piedmontese dialect; indeed, La Piola is the village tavern where you eat typical dishes and drink generous glasses of wine.

Where food, wine and art come together

A convivial place where food, wine and art come together. In the kitchen, chef Dennis Panzeri is in charge of preparation of the dishes, supervised by Enrico Crippa; the wine list and dining room are managed by Andrea Canaparo. A big blackboard dominates the main dining room where the menu is written every day following two rules: market supply and seasonality.

Also art finds its place inside La Piola with two chandeliers and a number of prints by Kiki Smith. Last but not least, 36 plates made by contemporary artist, a decorative element that recalls the tradition of the Piatti del Buon Ricordo (memorable dishes), in use in Italian restaurants in the 60s and 70s.

A meeting place between food and wine and art, with the aim of finding the right combination of contemporary and traditional Langhe.
